Community Guidelines
Version 2026-10-13
Muster is for hanging out with your friends and communities. Encryption keeps your conversations private, but private doesn't mean anything goes. These rules apply everywhere on Muster: DMs, servers, voice, video, profiles and server names.
Zero tolerance
These lead to your account being closed straight away, and we report them to the National Crime Agency or the police.
- Child sexual abuse and exploitation. Any sexual content involving under-18s (including drawn, AI-generated or "fictional" images), grooming, sexual messages to children, asking children for images, or sextortion.
- Terrorism. Sharing terrorist material, supporting or recruiting for proscribed organisations, or planning attacks.
Not allowed
- Threats and violence: threatening to hurt or kill someone, or encouraging others to.
- Encouraging suicide or self-harm. Talking about your own struggles is fine; encouraging or assisting someone else to harm themselves is not.
- Intimate images without consent: sharing, or threatening to share, sexual or nude images of someone without their consent, including deepfakes.
- Harassment and bullying: targeting someone again and again, coordinating pile-ons, or carrying on after they've blocked you.
- Hate: attacking people because of race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, disability, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity.
- Sharing private information (like someone's address) to harass or endanger them.
- Illegal goods and services: selling drugs, weapons, stolen data or anything else illegal.
- Fraud and scams: phishing, fake giveaways, impersonating people or organisations, or stealing accounts.
- Spam and malware.
- Adult content where it isn't wanted: sending sexual content to people who haven't agreed to it, or in servers where it isn't allowed. Never involving under-18s.
- Being under 16, or helping someone under 16 use Muster.
- Getting around enforcement: making new accounts after we've closed yours.
Server owners
If you run a server, you're responsible for setting it up safely: use roles and moderators, remove people who break these rules, and report serious problems to us. We may remove servers that are set up for, or mostly used for, breaking these rules.
What happens if you break the rules
Depending on how serious it is: we remove the content, sign you out, disable your account for a while or for good, and for illegal content we keep evidence and report it to the authorities. You can appeal a decision; see Safety & reporting.
See something? Report it
Right-click (or long-press) a message and choose Report, open someone's profile menu and choose Report, or use Report server in the server menu. How reporting works.
